In over thirty years of journalism, Jimmy Burns has made dozens of TV and radio appearances on both sides of the Atlantic, while regularly contributing to the Financial Times and other printed media, in particular the international Catholic weekly The Tablet, and the Spanish newspaper El Mundo on a range of subjects. They include trade unions affairs, financial corruption, terrorism and security, crime, Northern Ireland, the Royal family, Church affairs, human rights, race relations, charities, health, and war. He also retains a special interest in Spanish football.

As he is fluent in Spanish, Jimmy Burns broadcasts regularly on Latin American and Spanish TV and radio networks and contributes to the Spanish print media signing as Jimmy Burns Maranon. His contributions have included articles for El Mundo on the British Royal Family, Princess Diana, The Beatles, Maradona, Beckham, and Margaret Thatcher.

Jimmy Burns is a regular visitor to Amsterdam where he contributes to the Dutch football literary magazine Hard Gras. Edited by Henk Spaan and Matthijs can Nieuwkerk, the magazine draws in the best and most original writing on the game from around the world. The magazine inspired an English equivalent called Perfect Pitch which was edited by Simon Kuper.
